Im a big fan of my ruger X-17

Straight out of the box with just a decent scope its a tack driver. Id eventually like to get some owrk done on it to make it even better.
IMO there is no other 17hmr rifle out there that is better out-of-the box than the X-17. I like them so much Ive got two of them. Ive killed prairie dogs out to 600yds with it and use it regularly to head shoot cull bucks and does.
Hard to beat them but Im also partial to rugers also.

I wouldn't buy a new Marlin. Find one that is an actual Marlin (Made in New Haven), before the Remington take over. That way you don't get a steaming pile of ****.

I would but the only older marlin 17hmrs I can find around here is a hundred bucks more then the xt is and my boss is wanting to give me a scope for free. The one I'm looking at is 189 plus tax at walmart.
