I shoot overall much better groups with it. I've also never had a deer run more than about 15 yards after being shot with it. I've studied the knockdown power and the .280 outperforms in both velocity and ft/lbs.

Knockdown power is a myth. Your not gonna knock anything down. Shot placement is key no matter what round.
I have a factory r700 sps in 270 in the cheapest model they make, with 140gr bergers it does 8.5" groups at 1000yds with 3 cold bore shots.
The 280 is between a 7-08 and a 7mag.
Simar to the 308. 30-06. And 300wm.
My best friend hunts with a 280 and he has no complaints.
Heck i hunt with a 223 and have taken deer out to 450yds with it. After using it all summer i just save my powder and bullets for my bigger guns.

Ive never had a deer, big or small, nor a 325# boat hog run with a 223.
If you payed attn in school you should know 2 main important things that sustain a living creature. Blood and nerves, take one of those and its night night.
I always go for high shots above and in front of the shoulder, takes the spine out and no movement from the neck down. If they are further out i put one in the head, instant dirt nap. If its a running target i go for the front shoulder low. Takes out front leg movement and the heart/ lung at the same time.
Im not saying the 280 is nothing, im saying shot placement is key no matter the round. Ive seen gut shot deer run for miles with a hit from 300wsm and 7rum both shooting high dollar ammo and the deer had guts hanging out of them when we finally found them. Both times the shooter flinched and yanked it bad.
Ive studied ballistics and such and what several bullets were designed to do. But in real world events the bullets dont perform and find them unharmed with just rifling marks.
I shot a big 240# buck running in my direction, using 77gr Nosler custom competition in my 7twist AR. One round below the neck, exited the rear hindquarter with about a 1" dia exit wound. Good thru and thru with horrible soft tissue damage the entire wound channel. I watched the deer when the bullet hit it collasped and went end over end. DRT 225yds.
Ive loaded several bullets for my buddys 280. All them did bout the same so we settled on some 140gr corelokts as they would group 1.25" at 100yds.
Ive learned over the 20yrs of shooting that there are endless ways to do the same thing. And there are those that are biased just like in automobiles. So stick to what you know and try to improve yourself.
Wasnt tryin to start an argument, just tellin ya what i know. And ill try to help ya anyway i can if need be.
