The price is not bad right now at all. Before all the BS, they were selling for around $500 on average. Now, you can get it for $600 and Izhmash has actually made a couple nice upgrades to the shotgun in the interval period.

So, assuming you buy online:

$600 for the firearm itself
$25 shipping
$20-35 FFL transfer fee
$150 conversion kit, assuming you can do all the work yourself (not hard)
$10 miscellaneous - paint, drill bits, etc

Total = ~$800

That's bare bones without any extra magazines aside from the 1 5 rounder that comes with the firearm. Factor in about another $200 if you want a drum and a couple stick mags.

And to answer your question about the gun not being worth it over a $300 870, I would say it is, for me. The S-12 is by far the favorite firearm I own, in fact most of my other guns are just sitting collecting dust. The Saiga-12 is an incredible platform because there are simply so many different configurations and you can completely customize it to your own tastes and needs Pumps have their place, still of course

EDIT: Here's mine.....it's been through about 4 different configurations now, and I like this the best. I'm going to be buying another one here soon, so I can put my non-magwell magazines to good use.
