Starting my AR build

To be honest I dont know WTF I should get for what I want to do. I really need something with a little magnification and a small crosshair. A cheap scope will probably do the job Im just apprehensive as to how well it will gather light at night.

these are good cheap scopes cody, I own 4 of them on various rifles. i have 0 complaints. The AO makes it awesome on my .22, but the 20x magnification works well for putting rounds on my 7-08 down range.

Well, went and shot it today. Put about a hundred rounds through it with no problems but I HATE the iron sights. The damn front sight is so big at 100 yards ts hard to get it to group real well. Need to decide what type of sight to go with. Probably throw a cheapo scope on it for now.
I love the iron sights, just most of my shooting is at night time and that dont work too great.
I made a 684yd first round hit with my M1 Garand using good ole Irons on a 20" steel target.

Just read the thread, congrats on the build! I've been playing SKS lately, might eventually build an AR in .308 but it'll be a long while yet.
If you want someone to show you how those iron sights work, just let me know. I happen to be very familiar with them. 6 straight years of expert qualification with them at 500yds, distinguished marksman several times, among other things LOL.....

Nah, my dad is giving me one of his extra scopes that I'll be putting on it. I want a more precise shot than the iron sights will allow. My brother inlaw was a marine and qualified expert or whatever the top level is every year he was in and he couldn't hit worth a dang with them either. That's not to say either of us are an expert, just that I'm more comfortable with a scope.
Just have to figure out what mount to go with, either the primary arms

Or the burris pepr

Possibly so, but for 20rds of non stop fun, a quality built AR10 is unbeatable. Look at the RSASS, and the Lewis Machine 308.(M110). both of those are sub .8moa out to 800yds which is within spec of the M40,M24, and the M118LR ammo.
I wanna build one bad.. but its gonna be awhile.
