Went shootin finally, shot a few rentals & ...
I've been jonesin for guns after readin about u jerks & yer XD's.
So I blame u guys for helping me spend my $.
Actually, I've been wanted to go to range for oh, IDK, a couple yrs, maybe 3 now. Finally I did, went w/. my brother.
I had in mind to rent a particular gun. A 10mm. They had a Glock20 10mm, so I wanted to compare. So I brought my cap gun too, a 686 4" .357 Magnum.
We had 1/2 to play; my older bro had a blast.
So, we shot the following: rented Glock 10mm & XDm 45. And my baby.
Glock: 1st Glock I ever shot. I don't like how wide grips are, apparently due to the dbl-stacked mag. And I've big hands.
I expected the 10mm to kick way more. It didn't actually, which I thought the polymer frame would amplify. After being away from shootin for a few yrs, I anticipated the shot, but still, thought it coulda been more accurate; like said, that may've been me but I didn't have that happen so much w/. the other 2. So, to be fair, I wanna shoot a 10mm again, a Glock or not just to see. Slide nipped my bro's hand once when gripped too close to slide; he thought casings flew a bit crazy too.
I kept thinkin how best to grip gun, so that coulda been better, but that's me, not the unit so much.
XDm 45: Really liked it, as did my bro. It too seemed wide, but not like the Glock & not in a wierd way. From what some said, I was expecting it to sit in a hand diff. than a 1911. Not true, or at least it didn't bother. Would I buy 1? Yes. But there are others I'd pick 1st, not that the XDm is bad, just I have my eye on somethin else. But for a polymer, my 1st time shootin a Springfield, & the "highly touted XD", id did what it should, it shot. I was more accurate w/. it than the 10 too.
S&W .357:
I bought this to compare more than anything, how it kicked vs the 10mm.
The .357 right from the 1st shot. It's louder, kicks more, but I love it. It's accurate too, but again, coulda been better if I went to a range more. I felt more comfortable w/ it, but it's mine after all. My bro loved shootin it, as he has before, & so too did another when he shot it on a previous outing.
Cost me ~$135 for 1/2 of fun. I needed to pay for rentals / range time for 2 people, 4 targets aren't much, but ammo sure was. Ammo was $85 of that for all 3. House guns require their spec'd ammo bought there & I was fresh out of .357, so that price mighta been better had I gotten it elsewhere maybe.
What I learned, a few things. Take or buy extra targets; instead, now I don't know what gun shot what. I need somethin to mark when using multiple guns, rented or not.
And, that when u hear how somethin fits the hand or shoots, u just gotta find out for yourself.
Get down a form, as breathing & practice will help my accuracy. I plan on goin again, & I've been wanting to go blast for awhile, just didn't think it'd take this long to do so. This was just me gettin back into it.

Ya, we both came away impressed w/. the XDm 45. I hadn't even planned on renting it actually. Just the Glock, which, like I said, the jury (meaning me, since I'd possibly get one) is still out on.

What ammo were you shooting in the 10mm? I doubt it was full power stuff. Legit 10mm ammo pushes 750 ft/lbs of energy, which is about twice what a standard 9mm load will produce.

I do not like them the best, but I shoot well with one. I just am not a fan of polymer guns. I like them to feel like a gun. SW makes some of the nicest revolvers but let them stick to them. For a semi I would stick with glock, hk, beretta, sig. Some other nice ones also.. Also with the price of ammo if you plan to range it slot, it's hard to beat a 40cal round for the price and even the knock down power.. Just my op here, I plan on a 357 or 44 down the road just for *****. I love my sig 229 though

I don't think you can beat the Glock 23 for concealed carry. That's just my personal opinion trough

American Eagle 180gr. Is that full power?
Actually not true. Try closer to 1050-1300. I have no interest in a 9.

Round here, .40 is just a tad less than 10mm.

American Eagle 10mm is weak stuff. It's got the same energy as target .40 cal loads. You didn't really experience true 10mm. The numbers you quoted are the velocities, not the energy.
Unfortunately, it's very hard to get full power 10mm stuff, unless you reload or are willing to pay $1/round for Buffalo Bore. I guess that's why my G29 is sitting in the closet collecting dust.

Glock either fits you or doesnt, you gotta " learn" how to shoot a glock, i dont care for them.
For handguns my preference are S&W semi autos ( i have a stainless 1911 45. that fits like a glove)
And older Colt 1911's ( have one also) Both these guns fit nice and are comfortable in the hand.
