Default XD in .45 ACP - Tactical, or Service?

I arrived at the XD after trying a number of .45s. The only other contender for me (based on fit and comfort), was the H&K USP.

Looking for pros and cons on the 5" vs. the 4". Experiences?

I can get a barely-used Tactical for $479, a new Service for $549.

Either one woks just fine.
For just HD, you could go with either. The difference is null.
So its up to you haha.
Id get the 5" for competition if it were me. Lil extra sight radius never hurts. And the couple more ounces might keeping steady.

If you cant decide, then go with the cheaper one. Thats all i can tell ya.

i like the tactical but i would go with the USP as they are one of the MOST accurate out of box pistols made

If & when I decide to get a .45, it will likely be the XD Tactical. I like the little bit of extra range & accuracy. The barrel is 25% longer, so that has to mean something(in my mind anyways).

I'd also consider the XD-M.

No XD-M in Cali.

Thanks guys. I compared the 4" and 5" weapons again today, and though I don't like the extra 1" in size and bulk, I think the Tactical is the better weapon. It seemed to be better balanced all-around.

What can I expect to pay new for one? What about the nearly-new 5" from the dealer, would you buy an used weapon from an unknown owner? (the owner suddenly sold four XDs to the dealer in varying calibers).

Expect to pay around $550ish. I have an XD tactical & didn't think twice about a service model as it just felt right for me.

Fortunately, I picked mine up during the promotion period with 3 magazines and a mag holder.

Don't think twice about purchasing a used firearm. Just check them out thoroughly as you would a vehicle.

I've bought a few used pistols and rifles over the years. Just make sure they're in good condition, not overpriced, and not stolen. Then you're good to go.
