Went and shot the new marlin last weekend. It jammed and failed to eject more than I would have liked, but I attribute that to it being brand new and not broken in or lubed up yet. Put probably 200 rounds through it. The girlfriend really likes shooting it since it has basically no recoil and is very easy to shoot accurately. After a few loads worth and sighting in the scope she was shooting 3" groups at 50yards.

bought my self a toy while in San Antonio for the shoot out this wknd.

Its a Remington 597 that I bought at Dick's Sporting Goods.
Its a heavy barrel model. Mods so far are Bi-pod and free floating the barrel.
We'll see what she does tomorrow night at the range.

added a new one yesterday , pick it up next week

desert eagle .44 mag in brushed chrome along with a .50ae chrome barrel and will be picking up clips and ammo for the .50 this week

almost bought a m110 savage in .338 lapua but after looking into ammo prices and feeling of the bolt movement it felt cheap so ill be waiting for the barret in 416 bolt action (probably the m99 and not the m82a1 since it will be well over 10k once i put nice optics on it ).

i want to get into long range shooting badly , i know logic says for entry level get something cheaper (30-06 , 308 , etc) but i love the big dogs .

doing more research on the tactilite ar-15 bolt action upper

I'd start with a lighter/cheaper caliber first. Most quality guns can out-shoot the shooter easily, and working on your skills will require a lot of rounds. The 416, lapua or any of the other top-of-the-line long range calibers are going to wear your shoulder and pocket book out while you hone your skills.

To be honest, a lot of the bigger "hunting" cartridges with good glass are pretty damn accurate out of the box. My 300wsm rem700 with a leupold vxl can put 5 in a 12" group with factory loads at 600yds. Of course that's not going to win any contests but pretty good imo for all factory shelf stuff.

2004ss. If you want to get onto long range shooting I would not get one of those 416s because I don't even think you can load your own ammo for one of those. But they do have stupid good ballistics. I would stick with 338 and below. I personally made some 1510 yards shots a few days ago with my built savage 6.5-284. It's got plenty of juice to reach a mile too. I'm shooting seirra 142s with .595 bc @ about 2990 fps. I'm building a new 7wsm that's gonna shoot 180 berger hybrids with .671? Bc around 3000 fps. Plug those ballistics in a computer and you'll find these are nice long rang rounds.

I don't know guys. If I were to get a rifle for the sole purpose of long range shooting and it had to be a big boy, I'd personally go with the 375 Cheytac. The ballistics on it are phenomenal, and at least then you can still take it hunting for anything on the planet (African big five caliber limit). But then again, for hunting paper at 1k yards on in, I'd rather use my ol' 30-06.

338RUm shooting cost is not to bad. They are nice out at longer ranges and do pretty good up close. Mine had a 24 inch barrel rem action. It shot a 300gr berger at 2650. it knocked stuff over.

My new favorite rifle is a 300RUM built and trued with a 29inch 1-10 twist tube. It shoot 210gr bergers @3175. Its really nice out to 1,200 yards. Its heavy but no recoil at all. the cost of shooting it is not bad at all.
This is the 300RUM

Yeah, last I read you can't get brass for the 416 except for once fireds through barrett. The only other way is to use 50bmg brass, neck it down then trim. The dies are 800 bucks too, along with needing a press that can handle the 50 cal brass then you've only got a handful of places that even make the bullet. Definitely not a cartridge for the novice or even recreational shooter.

I'd have to go usmc on this one, the 375 cheytac is a pretty sweet round. I just can't get past the cost of admission for the "top-tier" cartridges. Both the cost of the gun and rounds.

Wonder if my dad would let me steal the action off his 338rum or 300rum

How do you like the SS optics? They aren't too far away from me I need to go visit them and take a look at them.
