I bought a salvage car once, will never do it again. The car never drove in a straight line, with an alignment the car "dog walked" also the right front was lower than the other 4 corners of the car.

if you know what your looking at and for, the car is older car/truck and very cheap - yes. otherwise no most of them are not worth the deal. Check frame rails front and rear inside the panels for damage. core support.

I assure you that was not the reason. for a insurance to total out a car the damage cost is %60-70 of kbb value. Or there has been frame damage involved that cannot be repaired to be within spec.

I had a 2006 4x4 titan that was rolled.. they didn't even wanna total it... ended up costing 15,000 to fix... they totalled it and gave me 25,000
A "rear bumper" is not worthy of a salvage title unless there's more to the story

Im a little late on the reply but I've purchased several salvage vehicles in the past with no problems. You just have to know what to look when inspecting the repairs they made. It all depends on the shop that repaired it. Some shops do cosmetics repairs without even touching the frame just to sell it fast. I've seen cars get a salvage title for many reasons it doesn't really have to be a "total loss" that all depends on the insurance company. Ive seen a 08 denali sierra get a salvage title over stolen rims and tail lights with no suspension damage or any other damage at all. Every situation is different, there are too many variables (accident, insurance company, blue book value etc.) to automatically classify every salvage vehicle as what an insurance company defines a "total loss".
If you like the vehicle and price, just make sure to take the steps to inspect everything before you go through with it. If you need a carfax report on it to see older history on it just let me know.

We have had probably 1000 salvage cars. I don't buy salvage from others. I buy direct and fix it so I KNOW what the deal was. I do 90 percent theft recoveries which are easy because they bolt together. I generally sell a $16,000 KBB retail piece for 11,000. If you have green money you can really do well. If you gotta get the banks okay than I guess you're paying retail. And the "cant resell it" argument doesn't play either. If you buy something for 5K cheaper and at the end of the ride 5 years later the cars worth 7-8K retail how much can you possibly lose over the clean titled counterpart.
